בעיית מכירות מטיילים באמצעות סניף וכבול

בהתחשב בקבוצה של ערים ומרחק בין כל זוג הערים הבעיה היא למצוא את הסיור הקצר ביותר האפשרי שמבקר בכל עיר בדיוק פעם אחת וחוזר לנקודת ההתחלה.

לדוגמה שקול את הגרף המוצג באיור בצד ימין. סיור TSP בתרשים הוא 0-1-3-2-0. עלות הסיור היא 10+25+30+15 שזה 80.

פיתרון סניף וקשרי  
כפי שניתן לראות במאמרים הקודמים בסניף ובשיטה כבולה לצומת הנוכחי בעץ, אנו מחשבים את הפיתרון הטוב ביותר האפשרי שנוכל לקבל אם נוריד את הצומת הזה. אם הגבול בפתרון הטוב ביותר האפשרי עצמו הוא גרוע יותר מהזרם הטוב ביותר (המחושב בצורה הטובה ביותר עד כה), אנו מתעלמים מהתת המושרשת עם הצומת. 
שים לב שהעלות דרך צומת כוללת שתי עלויות.

באלגוריתם ה- TSP של הענף ואלגוריתם ה- TSP אנו מחשבים גבול נמוך יותר על העלות הכוללת של הפיתרון האופטימלי על ידי הוספת עלויות הקצה המינימליות עבור כל קודקוד ואז מחלקה לשניים. עם זאת, יתכן כי גבול תחתון זה אינו מספר שלם. כדי לקבל גבול שלם נמוך יותר נוכל להשתמש בסיבוב.

בקוד לעיל המשתנה Curr_Bound מחזיק את הגבול הנמוך הנוכחי בעלות הכוללת של הפיתרון האופטימלי. כאשר אנו מבקרים בקודקוד חדש ברמה ברמה אנו מחשבים New_bound חדש בגבול נמוך יותר על ידי לקיחת סכום עלויות הקצה המינימליות עבור הקודקוד החדש ושני שכנותיו הקרובות ביותר. לאחר מכן אנו מעדכנים את המשתנה Curr_Bound על ידי עיגול New_bound למספר שלם הקרוב.

מורכבות זמן: המורכבות הגרועה ביותר של הענף והגבול נותרה זהה לזו של כוח הזרוע בבירור מכיוון שבמקרה הגרוע שלעולם לא נקבל סיכוי לגזום צומת. ואילו בפועל הוא מתפקד טוב מאוד תלוי במופע השונה של ה- TSP. המורכבות תלויה גם בבחירת פונקציית הגבול מכיוון שהם אלה שמחליטים כמה צמתים לגזום.
